Maceo, Antioquia, Colombia

Story

The little hamlet of Maceo, which was once known as San Juan de Mata, has a lengthy history with cacao. Cacao is typically grown with plantains, beans, palm trees, and lumber tree species by local farmers. Some people also cultivate beautiful plants and flowers. Fresh cocoa is gathered from about 250 farming families. Their plots are typically two hectares in size. The region's cocoa is renowned for having minimal cadmium content.

Aromac is a locally owned business that wants to help farmers by giving them higher pricing and giving them a portion of their profits. Additionally, they actively back a neighbourhood project that assists women who have been abused at home.

Post-harvesting is done at a fermentation centre that the local government has constructed.
